COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) — The Junior Auxiliary of Starkville hosted its fourth annual Reading Railroad Tuesday on Mississippi State’s campus.

Reading Railroad works with families to help promote the importance of reading.

Kids from schools throughout Oktibbeha County came out to take part in the event.

They even had the opportunity to have a book read to them by MSU athletes.

During the event, students were able to do cool activities such as making their own books and creating bookmarks.

“The Reading Railroad is pretty fun, it’s like you can read, pick out a book, you can do fun activities, it’s pretty fun,” said second grader Jack Aarhus.

“It’s a great way for us to give back, whether it’s making a stick to follow in a book to help them read, or give them reading material to take home,” said Kelly Kirby, Junior Auxiliary of Starkville.

More than 150 kids came out to participate, and they got to take home a book of their choice.
