STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) — A residence hall fire on the Mississippi State University campus has displaced some 200 students.

MSU officials say the fire started about 8 p.m. Sunday on the third floor of Oak Hall. They say it was caused by a candle burning in one of the rooms.

School officials moved students to alternative housing Sunday night, and will be placed into more permanent housing sometime today.

Oak Hall suffered fire and smoke damage, plus extensive water damage from its fire suppression system.

No injuries have been reported.
