STARKVILLE, Miss.(WCBI)–The group ISIS remains at the center of talks both locally in France and around the world. Six coordinated attacks left 129 people dead in what the French are calling an act of war.

Dr. Vasabjit Banerjee has been studying political groups of the middle east and here in the west for some time now. Hate and recreating a central form of government are two key issues driving the extreme religious segments

“So they want to re establish that Califite. And they are sort of attacking the west because they think the west has intruded on their territory on what could ideally controlled by sort of what they think are believers.”
,” said Dr. Vasabjit Banerjee/MSU Professor.

And under that ISIS belief system, Christians and Jews are targeted and marked for death. From what we understand, mainstream Islam, there is tolerance and acceptance.

“So Jews and Christians are considered to be people “people of the book” by the koran. So if you are a mainstream muslim then you have to actually give them special protections,” said Dr. Banerjee.

So according to our expert, ISIS, able to inflict pain death and destruction represents a minority in terms of numbers.

“Within the Wasabi there is ISIS. So you are talking about a splinter of a segment of a minor segment of a sect. Powerful because, and that’s the problem. I mean you hit the nail on the head,” said Dr. Vasabjit Banerjee/MSU Professor.

Apparently social media and other modern technology, ISIS continues to promote and maintain it’s brand of terror. However, when it come to there being large amounts of islamic militants streaming through our borders, Banerjee does not appear to be totally convinced of that.

“So its very difficult for this sort of uncontrolled mass of people across the border to just come across physically. Simply because of geography,” said Dr. Banerjee.

ISIS followers embrace some of the same patterns of interpretation of Islam as due followers of Al-Qaeda.
