COLUMBUS, Miss.(WCBI)–International students are nestled into their home away from home on the campus of Mississippi University for Women in Columbus.

MUW is a university that goes overboard and beyond our borders as international students are recruited. While some are freshmen, others are finishing up their senior year at MUW.

“Quite honestly the most of our students are from Nepal. We also have students we added from Romania, Malawi, which is in Africa, and also Spain. And then you go along with that we have a student from Cameroon who is in our masters of nursing program,” said Billy Simmons/MUW Student Services.

“I went to an American school in Malawi so American culture is not new to me,” said Limbikani Banda/Malawi Student.

Not the case for others who need every resource MUW has, in order for them to make the adjustment to campus life.

“And I’m like very happy right now but it wasn’t this way before one month before. So, I was like very lost and I was like what?,” said Heena Timsina/MUW Nepalese Student.

“I was not outgoing that time. I was like I just use to go to class and home and then class and again home,” said Sumitra Karki/Nepal.

There is support as these international students become part of campus organizations. As great as cultural exchange can be among students staff and faculty, learning abroad can be challenging at first.

“We want to make sure that the students get here, that they are comfortable. That they know whats around them and the tools they have at their disposal to use to succeed,” said Billy Simmons/MUW Student Services.

“Yeah, yeah, it definitely its home away from home. All my friends they are so familiar with me,” said Anis Niroula/Nepal.

“Its been a great journey out here. And I don’t want to leave this city, but I have to,” said Sumitra Karki.

There are a large number of international students from Nepal studying at MUW this academic year.
