COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) — Resourceful and resilient — the words Mississippi University for Women student nurses use to describe communities in Louisville following the April 28 tornado.

A class assignment for seniors in the community health nursing program required them to do a thorough study of a community, examining specific topics ranging from history and beliefs to economy and education.

This year’s students investigated the effects of the devastating tornado last April in Louisville, and the city’s recovery efforts.

They conducted their research during a two-day period in October by interviewing city officials and local citizens.

“When we came through regarding the tornado back in April, we accidentally ran across a lot of the tornado damage that still exists even now,” MUW nursing student Alex Anderbyrd said.

They presented their findings to the mayor and other city officials today.
