STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) — National Family Literacy Day is all about encouraging children the importance of reading at a young age.

Starkville families enjoyed a free day of fun, celebrating Family Literacy Day.

Hosted at Emerson Family School, a variety of activities were hosted for the families such as; help with your child’s homework, story time ad literacy through healthy activities.

Organizers say it is crucial to encourage children to begin reading at a young age to ensure positive outcomes.

“Because we have to start early with our babies. It’s hard to pick up on something later on in life,” said organizer, Elmarie Carr Brooks.
The event was hosted by Excel by 5, the Starkville School District and the local Kiwanis Club.
