TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) — A Pulitzer prize winning columnist says America is at a tipping point and will either see economic growth, or a stagnated economy. George Will was the keynote speaker at the “Outlook Symposium” in Tupelo. The event was organized by the Community Development Foundation.

Will told the crowd, made up primarily of business owners and community leaders, that the United States is experiencing a dramatic change because of government subsidies and handouts.

“Americans have always had a faith in upward mobility, a faith in abundance, a faith in growth. And what worries me is we are beginning to change our social norms and our national character by getting people used to being dependent on the government,” said Will.

Will says if politics in Washington DC don’t change soon, America will look like Greece, or other bankrupt European countries in ten or twenty years.
