NEW ALBANY, Miss. (WCBI) – The Legislature’s continued failure to fully fund secondary education is catching up with the New Albany school district. For the first time in 12 years, the district is asking for the maximum 4 percent increase in local funding. But it’s unclear yet whether the extra 142 thousand dollars will require a tax increase. The school board will present its funding request to aldermen in August and could adjust its request by then. Also, if property values increase enough, the current tax rate may generate enough revenue to cover the higher amount without a property tax hike.
