TUPELO, MISS. (WCBI)  – Six orphans from Taiwan are spending two weeks in Northeast Mississippi, learning about Southern hospitality and maybe finding a permanent home.

WCBI’s Allie Martin tells us more about this unique opportunity organized by a local faith based adoption agency.

These young visitors from Taiwan all have a different story, but they have one thing in common, they need a permanent home.

That’s why Tupelo based “New Beginnings ” organized this trip.  Five boys and one girl, ages 6 to 10, are spending two weeks in the area, learning about the culture, food, taking part in lots of activities, staying with host families and maybe finding a forever home.

“Scripture says, to care for orphans and so we feel as Christians we have that responsibility,” said Jill West.

It is a responsibility Jill and Josh West take to heart.  Nearly three years ago, Jill and Josh adopted Micah from Taiwan, and he has fit right into the family, quickly making friends with older brother, Clay.

“We have two little boys that are almost twins,” West said.

When Jill and her husband found out about the opportunity to host one of the Taiwanese orphans, they jumped at the chance.   Eight year old Henry is staying with the West family and Jill has made frequent use of an Iphone app to help tear down the language barrier.

Jill says it’s important for people to be reminded about the older orphans.

“Many times, people think about the small children, the babies, but they often, sometimes I think we forget about the older children and they need forever families too,” she said.

And another adoption may be in the future for Jill , Josh, Clay and Micah.

“We don’t think that it’s over, we probably will adopt again,” West said.

The youngsters return to Taiwan this Saturday, but hopefully they will be back soon, for good.

On Thursday, Auburn Baptist Church is hosting a Vacation Bible School for the Taiwanese orphans.
