COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI)-A historic downtown attraction could be completed by May in downtown Columbus. The old Highway 82 bridge over the Tombigbee River has been stabilized and painting has begun as part of a $2.2 million dollar effort to transform it into a pedestrian park. New metal railing is being installed and work should begin soon on new wooden decking. New decorative lighting should be installed soon. With other concrete and steel repair 80 percent completed, Malouf Construction says it could be finished by April or May. City officials still are deciding what color to paint the main structure.
