LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) — Students at New Hope Elementary School will have a permanent reminder of this year’s 4-County Arbor Day Poster Contest. The theme of the art competition was “Love Trees”, and New Hope Fifth Grader Korey Green took home top honors.

To mark the occasion, 4-County donated a Red Sunset Maple to the school. Thursday, they held a planting ceremony.

Along with exercising their artistic sides, students also learned about the role trees play in our environment.

“My poster is about loving trees, and trees are important to the environment,” said 5th Grade winner, Kory Green. “So, that’s why I like doing it, they provide a lot of different things for us that are useful.”

Students from seven area schools participated in this year’s poster contest.
