NETTLETON, Miss. (WCBI) – The town of Nettleton officially has a new mayor and Ward 2 Alderman.

Tuesday, Mem Riley defeated two opponents for the mayor’s spot, while G.C. Rhudy defeated a challenger for the Ward 2 seat. Both were sworn in Thursday morning.

The special election followed last month’s resignation of former Mayor Jimmy Taylor and former alderwoman Gale Senter.

Mayor Riley says he wants to bring more businesses to Nettleton.

“We have to really recruit them, we have to get out let them see what we offer, we got a great school system, have to promote that, our crime rate is low, we got a good police department, great volunteer fire department so when you offer that, and a good living environment, businesses look at it .”

Both Rhudy and Riley will serve the unexpired two year terms of the former mayor and alderman.
