COLUMBUS. Miss. (WCBI) — For parents and students, moving into dorms can be stressful, but the Mississippi School for Math and Science at the Mississippi University for Women is making the transition process a little easier.

Barbara Bluntson is moving her son into the dorm for his first year at Mississippi School for Math and Science.

When the family pulled up expecting to unpack and haul her son’s belongings up the stairs, they were greeted with happy helpers.

“I didn’t think it would take as quickly as it did. They were just like organized, synchronized and it just happened so quickly. And we were in and out and we had a lot of stuff. So it was really good,” says Barbara Bluntson.

The Senior emissaries had the new students’ belongings unloaded, on the elevator and in their room in about five minutes.

Director of Admissions, Rick Smith says it’s a way the new seniors and staff honor the incoming Juniors.

“We got students who are showing up expecting to have to move all their stuff and so we just say no, you’re not allow to touch anything. We’re going to do that for you. That’s our way of welcoming you to our family. And it’s the emissaries opportunity to really show the juniors how much we appreciate them and look forward to working with them,” says Rick Smith.

Senior, Ben Emmich remembers how nervous he was when he moved into the dorms this time last year.

“I pulled up approximately right where we’re standing right now and all of my things were in the dorm in my room in what seemed like less than five minutes. I was amazed with which the speed the seniors executed their actions. And then orientation began and before I knew it I already felt like I had friends that I’ve known for my entire life,” says Ben Emmich.

With 135 juniors moving into the dorms, MSMS wants to make sure each student feels right at home.

The school was named one of the best high school in America by Newsweek and the daily best.
