STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) -The Starkville – Oktibbeha County Consolidated School Board met for the first time Tuesday night, and the group got right to work.

This week a Federal judge signed off on the desegregation plan agreed to by the Department of Justice and the school district, clearing the consolidation effort.

Now, the attention turns to former the Oktibbeha County Board of Education building. County leaders gave the district one floor of the two story building, but that move doesn’t sit well with school administrators.

“That building served students of roughly 800 students in the school district and now that the school district is 5,300 students, giving us half the space doesn’t seem like that the board of supervisors is fulfilling their obligations that the law requires.”

Eddie Myles, former president of the Starkville school board, was sworn in tonight. He was also elected president of the new consolidated district school board.
