TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) – Tupelo’s booming tennis community soon will have more room to grow.

The city council is expected to award a $544,000 contract to Worsham Brothers of Corinth to build six tennis courts at Rob Leake Park.

Four of the courts will eventually be enclosed with the bubble that was used to cover the city pool.

The city already has 10 courts that draw 16,000 league players each year and thousands more recreational players.

The expanded courts will make the city eligible for larger regional and college tournaments.

Work should begin in January and be completed next August.
