TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) – The nation’s largest rural hospital system has been included again in a list of “most wired” healthcare providers. North Mississippi Health Services was placed in “Health Care’s Most Wired Survey” which is conducted by “Hospitals and Health Networks.” The survey includes hospitals that have made big gains by using IT to reduce the likelihood of medical errors. Also, more than 80 percent of “Most Wired” hospitals match medications to patients through bar code technology at the bedside. NMMC has been using that technology for some time now.

“There’s a lot of behind the scenes work that goes into making sure we keep our technology up to date, technology changes frequently. Our goal here is basically to use technology to enhance our patient care.”

“As you would guess there’s a significant dollars needed to be invested into hospital business year over year, and that’s just a requirement to stay ahead of the curve.”>

NMHS will spend around 10 million dollars on its IT department this year. This is the 14th year NMHS has made the “most wired ” list.
