TUPELO, MISS. (WCBI) — The first afternoon of 2014 was only a few hours old when a huge gift bag filled with presents from local businesses was delivered to these proud parents.

Tyree Amir Jones weighed in at 7 pounds and six ounces when he entered the world this new year’;s day, at 5 02 in the morning.

His due date was January 11th, but in the afternoon New Year’s Even, Tyree’s mom knew it was time.

“I was just hurting, ready to get it over with,” said Mom Shelia Ivy.

So mom, dad, grandmother and a few brothers and sisters headed to the women’s hospital. Shelia was in labor for 9 hours before giving birth to the first baby of the new year.

“It feels good, we didn’t expect it, but glad he’s here. It’s different, I don’t know too many people born on the first, so it’s exciting,” Dad Terrance Jones said.

For some family members, like big brother Ladarius, the excitement took its toll. Tyree’s grandmother wasted no time bragging on her newest grandson.

“He’s a celebrity for today,” said Grandmother Shelia Montgomery.

Tyree’s mom and dad say they will be sure and save all the news clips, photos and other mementos of this special day so their son can see all the fuss made over his early arrival.
