Video: North Mississippi Well-Represented in Policom’s Top Micropolitan Ratings

NORTH MISSISSIPPI (WCBI) — The weather is not the only thing heating up when it comes to North Mississippi, the economy is on the rise also. The Policom Corporation tracks economic and industrial growth and it says for 2014 three of the country’s top 50 Micropolitans are in the North half of the state. Micropolitans are urban areas with with populations between 10,000 and 50,000. Currently there are 536  such cities nationwide. The rankings are based on per capita income, the number of new jobs and capital investments.

Columbus is just outside the top-10 ranking, 11th nationwide. Three slots back sits Oxford which is number 14. Tupelo comes in in the number 32 position while Starkville is in the top half  of the country’s Micropolitans at 195.
