NEW ALBANY, Miss. (WCBI)–Residents of almost every town across the region know it… the sound of train whistles in the distance. Some find it soothing. Others say it’s an unwelcome annoyance. Now New Albany is joining Tupelo and Columbus in trying to find a way to develop railroad quiet zones. The city has named Mayor Tim Kent and three others to a committee to work with Burlington-Northern Railroad on the issue in some parts of the city. Columbus and Tupelo have been dealing with the issue for years with little success.
