LOUISVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) – The lines at a local market in Louisville were long as residents picked up last minute items before the storm hits the area.

“Everybody I think is being prepared & they want to make sure that they do have everything that they need,” says Mary Anne Johnson, store manager at Vowell’s Market Place in Louisville.

People are stocking up on food for the next few days to ride out the first winter storm of the year.

“We’re picking up basic things because we aren’t sure about how bad it’s going to be,” says  Jamey Kinard, a Winston Academy student.

Some school districts have canceled classes on Tuesday after forecasters predict that the roads will be slick with ice. Lennon Goss is a supervisor at Lake Tiak ‘o Kahta and purchased salt to try and keep the walk ways on the property safe.

“We try to keep our customers safe. Sidewalks, ramps, parking lot and that kind of stuff,” says Goss.

Northeast Mississippi hasn’t had a major ice storm since 1994. Officials say it’s best to stay off the roads tomorrow if at all possible.
