MACON, Miss. (WCBI) – Construction of a new jail in Macon is underway. The 36-bed facility will replace the old 20-bed jail built on Pearl Street in the 1970s.

JEM Contracting is in charge of the 2 point 5 million dollar project on county-owned property just north of the current jail. The jail could open a year from now.
