MACON, Miss. (WCBI) – In many rural areas ambulance crews are spread thin. The time it takes to get responders to the scene of an emergency can mean the difference between life and death.

Noxubee County leaders are joining forces with East Mississippi Community College to help fill that gap. Thursday night in Macon, they graduated the first class of the Emergency Medical Responders program.

Certified EMRs are trained to take control of an emergency until EMTs or firefighters arrive.

“They learn basic life saving skills: CPR, bleeding control, airway management, how to properly package a patient that has been injured, and how to move them without doing further harm.”

Noxubee County will be continuing the program. To find out how to sign up contact the County Fire Coordinator..
