NOXUBEE COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI)–A massive search continues for a Mashulaville woman reported missing by family members early Thursday morning.

At least over a half dozen law enforcement agencies are involved.

A military helicopter could be seen Friday circling an area of Western Noxubee County. 74-year old Lucy Wilborn Townsend was last seen walking along Hwy 14 near the corner of Hill and Simmons Road.

According to family members, Townsend suffers from a kind of dementia, she is on medication, and temperatures are in the 90’s Friday.

“So thats the reason we are trying to get out here early as we can so we can start looking and hope that we can locate her,” said Noxubee County Sheriff Terry Grassaree.

“She’s kind of old you know. She up in age pretty good. And she hasn’t had any food or water or anything like that you know,” said Townsend’s Nephew Robert Cotton.

The missing woman’s son existing on just one hour sleep since her disappearance is thankful for everyone’s help. He has even been looking for his mother on horseback and using a four wheeler in the search.

“I truly thank them, yes sir. And I hope we find her soon. And I hope she is okay,” said Townsend’s son Andre Townsend.

A statewide silver alert has been issued for the woman, the search for her is on land and in the air, as relatives wait for a positive word that she has been found and is alright.

“I sure hope they do. Sure hope they do,” said Andre Townsend.

Anyone with information on her whereabouts is asked to contact the Noxubee County Sheriffs Department at 662-726-5133.
