EGGVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) — A young marine who gave his life in Iraq was remembered by the community he called home.

A bridge which serves as the unofficial entrance to the Eggville community in Lee County has been named the Lance Corporal Stephen Baldwyn Memorial Bridge.

The 19-year-old was killed by an improvised explosive device (IED) while fighting insurgents in Iraq in May 2005.

He lived in the Eggville community and completed high school at Mooreville in December 2003, and joined the Marine Corps a month later. He went to boot camp and returned to graduate with his class in May 2004 before being deployed to Iraq.

The Veterans Council, Marine League and Lee County supervisors have been working on the project for about a year.
