NORTH MISSISSIPPI (WCBI) — Volunteers who want to help with recovery efforts in Tupelo and the surrounding area are being asked to register with United Way. A registration center for volunteers has been established at the Convention and Visitors Bureau. Volunteers can register, and get a wristband, identifying them as volunteers to law enforcement and residents.

Miss Mississippi, Chelsea Rick spent some time at the registration center, and also took a tour of the Joyner and Bristow Acres areas, where she met with volunteers.

“I’m here to serve as a reminder to keep the level of encouragement up and keep the spirit of volunteerism up because it’s so important, all these people are giving of their time, talents and effort working so tirelessly to get Tupelo and surrounding areas back up and running the way it should be and the way that we love it,” said Rick.

On Monday,  Rick will join Tupelo Mayor Jason Shelton to welcome students back to Joyner Elementary School.
