OKOLONA, Miss. (WCBI) — Third and fourth graders at Okolona Elementary are getting fired up about the Mississippi Curriculum Test 2 (MCT2).

They’ll be taking the important state tests this week to assess where they stand in reading, writing and math subjects.

To motivate students, teachers held a special pep rally that featured cheers and dances.

Principal Lashanda Hoskins says the teachers have been working hard, and are looking forward to seeing improved test results.

“Last year we weren’t too proud about our test scores, but this year we’ve been working really hard,” Hoskins said. “We’ve worked with Selly, we’ve worked with the Bailey-Kirkland group. We are excited. We really feel strongly about the student’s success. Like I said, the teachers have been working hard, the students have been working hard, so we feel like we are going to do great this year.”

The teachers have also used daily test tips, visits from the school superintendent, and incentives like pizza and ice cream parties to encourage their students.
