OKOLONA, Miss. (WCBI) – Some Okolona students are getting a head start in the job market. Juniors and seniors from Okolona High School participated in mock job interviews Monday morning.

With the economy on the rebound and more jobs becoming available, students at Okolona High School are trying to set themselves apart from other job applicants. Fresh Start is a local employment service helping students prepare for job interviews.

“We’re trying to market these students so that we can bring more employers to the area and give the students more opportunities for the upcoming seasonal job opportunities,” says Shameka Brand, Manager of Fresh Start Empployment Service.

“I can say I decided to be in it because it gave me better job perspectives,” says Okolona High School Junior, Randy Shaffer.

“I decided to take part to gain knowledge, experience and to better me and help me get a job,” says De’lgee Hicks, a junior at Okolona High School.

Students will receive grades for their overall performance. Fresh Start Employment Service will also assist the 15 most qualified students during this holiday hiring season.

“There was a lack of opportunities for kids and adults alike so I wanted to come here and do grant writing, resumes, and job placement for those who need it,” says John Standfield, Owner of the Fresh Start Employment Service.

Nearly 60 students participated in the Fresh Start Interview Day.
