STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) – $5,000 went to a great cause Thursday in Starkville.

The Oktibbeha County Humane Society won the Dine for Charity event for Restaurant week by just 6 hundred votes. Starkville residents were able to eat out for a week at participating restaurants and cast a ballot for their favorite charity. The Convention Bureau Board voted on the top three charities.

“I cannot believe that we won, we’re so excited. This 5 thousand dollars is going to do huge things in our community. The 5 thousand dollars could provide for the food shelter, medicine and care for 185 of our homeless pets, it can also provide for spare and neutered of over 70 dogs or cats before they are adopted,” said Martha Thomas, Board Memeber of the Oktibbeha County Humane Society.

Cadence Bank was the presenting sponsor for the event.
