Video: Oktibbeha County Seeks State Funding for Domed Emergency Shelter

STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) – Oktibbeha County wants to take storm safety to a new level.The county is seeking up to three million in state and federal funds to build a 20 thousand square foot domed storm shelter that would hold as many as 4 thousand people. The shelter would be similar to the domed basketball gyms built at Smithville and East Webster high schools following devastating tornadoes. Oktibbeha leaders want to build the dome on county-owned land near the intersection of Lynn Lane and Industrial Road because of a high concentration of businesses and homes in the area.
