OXFORD, Miss. (WCBI) – It is usually one of the most divisive events of the year in Mississippi – The Egg Bowl.

But at Ole Miss athletes used the rivalry as a chance to come together, and raise money for a good cause.

The Special Olympics Unified Egg Bowl was held Monday at Vaught Hemingway Stadium.

The Event brings Special Olympians representing both Mississippi State and Ole Miss together with traditional college students to compete in a flag football game with all of the intensity of the State’s biggest rivalry.

They also compete off the field raising money for Special Olympics.

” It’s just a great opportunity to take a time that’s normally divisive in this state, and use it as a cause for unity, to unify this state, to show us that we all have our abilities, and Special Olympics is a way that individuals who have intellectual disabilities get to develop a lot of talents and skills that they wouldn’t normally wouldn’t have.”

For the second year in a row, the Unified Rebels came out on top. Off the field, the Bulldogs were leading in fundraising
