Video: Organ Recovery Agency Balloon Release

WEST POINT, Miss.(WCBI)–Hospitals in North Mississippi have been working closely with the Mississippi Organ Recovery Agency and their “Donate Life” Initiative.

April is national donate life month.

People gathered at North Mississippi Medical Center in West Point Thursday fixed their eyes to the skies for a balloon release.

The donate life campaign is designed to educate the public on the importance of organ donations.

In 2008 Laura and Steve Gaskin’s son Matthew died in an accident. Since then some 41 recipients have benefited from his death, including a woman from Illinois.

“Its just a blessing to hear and how greatfull she is for the quality of life she can lead because of Matthew,” said Laura Gaskin/Organ Donor Advocate.

Representative from “donate life” will be at the following locations:

April 8th – MS Braves game in Pearl @ 6:00 – donor family to throw out the first pitch (let the office know if you need tickets 662-841-1960)

April 10th – Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Baldwyn @ 10:30 – Bessy Roberts speaking on the anniversary of her son being an organ, tissue and eye donor

April 12th – NMMC @ 9:00 front of the hospital – Julie Dickerson speaker – Kevin Stump our CEO will also be speaking

April 15th – UMMC-Grenada @1:00 in the front lobby – Brianna Blackman a teen recipient speaking

April 15th – UMMC Legacy Lap @ 11:30 – 2500 North State Street Jackson, MS

April 16th – Impressions of Life @10:00 – 12:00 at our Tupelo office location- Midtown Pointe 499 Gloster Creek Suite F1 Tupelo, MS 38801 ***See comment below.

April 21st – Biloxi Shuckers game @5:00 at the MGM stadium in Biloxi – donor family throwing out the first pitch – (let the office know if you need tickets)

April 30th – 8K race and family picnic – race @ 7:30 with picnic /music/and games immediately following – at our Flowood office- 4400 Lakeland Drive Flowood, MS 39232
