TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) – Lee County Supervisors took a few moments to honor a pioneer in physical therapy and rehabilitation. During Monday’s regular meeting, supervisors read a resolution honoring Kay Matthews for her work as executive director of the Regional Rehabilitation Center.

Matthews, who has been executive director of the facility for 12 years, announced her retirement recently. She has been involved with the center for more than 20 years. The Regional Rehab Center provides physical, occupational and speech therapy services to children and adults across the area. All services are provided at no cost to the patient. Matthews says she was surprised by the supervisors’ acknowledgement.

“I certainly didn’t expect it, it goes without saying how much I appreciate the fact that people have allowed me the privilege to serve in this capacity for over 27 years,” said Matthews.

On June 17th, a benefit for the Regional Rehab Center takes place at the Summit Center in Tupelo. It will celebrate Matthews’ work over the past 27 years.
