OXFORD, Miss. (WCBI) — Keeping track of rental properties in single-family neighborhoods is getting to be such a problem that Oxford may start making landlords register their properties.

The idea is part of broader revisions to the city’s neighborhood code enforcement ordinance.

The proposal would only apply to rental homes in single-family subdivisions and zoning districts.

Landlords would pay a $15 registration fee each year or anytime tenants change.

More University of Mississippi students are renting houses in neighborhoods.

The city is trying to find a way to better track how many unrelated people are living in rental properties.
