Video: Oxford Police Stepping up Patrols on the Square

OXFORD, Miss. (WCBI) – As the new school year begins,The Oxford Police Department is stepping up patrols in and around the downtown Square area this week.

Officers will write citations and even make arrests for open container violations, public drunkenness, disturbing the peace, and any other safety issues.

Oxford Police Chief Joey East says increased law enforcement in the Square area is all to make sure residents and visitors remain safe. East says the goal is to be proactive.

Oxford offers taxi and pedi-cab companies for people who may need a ride home. East also encourages safety in numbers, suggesting caution when walking home at night.
