PICKENS COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) — Pickens County voters will notice a single referendum when they go to the polls in June.

Officials want to levy an additional one-cent sales tax for education.

Pickens County has had a one-cent sales tax since the 80’s.

County Schools Superintendent Jamie Chapman says the current tax brings in just under $900,000, and believes the extra one-cent would garner just as much.

Chapman says the money would compensate for increasing prices for school materials.
