TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) — Plans for a west Tupelo supermarket are still moving along, despite a rumor that the store will not be built.

Dirt is being moved at the intersection of Coley Road and West Jackson Street Extended for a 27,000-square-foot supermarket. Brooks Grocery will employ at least 65 people and should be opened early next year.

However, in a conversation with owner Brooks Davis, WCBI has learned that future plans for a Wal Mart “neighborhood” store could have a bearing on the project.

Calls to Tupelo City Hall regarding future Wal Mart construction projects have not been returned.

Brooks Grocery operates a supermarket in Iuka, and the Tupelo location will also include a 3,000-square-foot AT&T retail site.
