PONTOTOC, Miss. (WCBI)-It may be two months before Pontotoc’s liquor ordinance goes into affect but citizens are voicing their opinions on alcohol regulations.

The Pontotoc Board of Alderman allowed the public to speak on the matter during Tuesday night’s meeting.

Many voiced their concerns about how the sells will affect the look of the town along with the impact it will have on local youth.

one pastor says he can;t stop the sells but hopes at least he can affect future locations.

“At least 250 feet 400 if possible from schools, churches and daycares. Our church hosts upward basketball along with First Baptist and there are businesses around us that potentially could sell it and frankly I don’t want the children to have to deal with it,” says David Hamilton.

The liquor ordinance passed by two votes with 832 people in favor and 796 against.

Pontotoc also passed the sell of beer and light wine.
