PONTOTOC, Miss. (WCBI) — Some North Mississippi middle schoolers will learn how to get green thumbs, thanks to a new grant.

Pontotoc Middle School recently received $80,000 to make a garden on the school campus.

As a result, the school created an agricultural class, where students are learning about gardening, and living a healthy lifestyle.

The students tell WCBI they’re excited about the new opportunities.

“It’s been very cool, and it’s definitely improved since last when they added this,” said Scout Riley Waldrop, a sixth grader. “It’s very healthy for us to eat and it also just looks amazing.”

Representatives from the Pontotoc City School District, Senator Roger Wicker’s office, and Ole Miss athletes were on hand for the event.
