Video: Prayer Vigil Held for Amory Teen

AMORY, Miss. – (WCBI) A community bows in prayer, as they grieve the loss of one teen and the healing of another.

A prayer vigil was held Wednesday evening in Amory, after last night’s fatal accident in Itawamba County.

18-year old Dwight Phillips, of Nettleton, was driving with passenger, 17-year old Alexis Reed Haywood of Amory on New Chapel Road in Itawamba County, when the car veered off the road before colliding into a tree.

Itawamba County Sheriff Chris Dickinson says that Haywood, died at the scene after the accident that occurred around 6:30 last night.

Haywood was a senior at Amory High School. Haywood will be laid to rest Friday at Meadow Wood Baptist Church in Amory.

Tonight, Phillips continues to fight for his life after suffering a head injury and broken pelvis.
