Professor Returns for Columbus History Lesson

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – Dozens gathered to hear at the Plymouth Bluff Center to hear a valuable source on Columbus history.
Dr. Jerry Lincecum is 3 generations removed from Gideon Lincecum, one of the most influential founders of the Columbus area.

Jerry Lincecum is now a professor of English in Texas, but he briefly returned to his roots to educate the people of Columbus about his kins great work.

“One of my favorite quotes is from Winston Churchill. ‘Those who do not know their history are bound to repeat it.’ And to know where we’re going we really have to know where we’ve been and what people have done and learn from them. ” said Rufus Ward, chairman of the Garth Foundation.

Gideon Lincecum’s extensive writings document his movements from Georgia, Mississippi and Texas.
