STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) – A popular sporting goods store is not locating to Starkville, just yet at least.
During the Starkville City Council meeting, representatives from the Golden Triangle Link discussed a proposed tax increment financial plan, which would help bring an Academy Sports, along with 3 to 4 new restaurants to Starkville.

The developers pushed for a $1.8 million dollar TIF but Mayor Parker Wiseman recommended a $1.45 million dollar TIF, assuming the county will pledge 50% property tax.

That would be around 60 to 70 percent of what the developer asked for.

For the Link representatives, that number isn’t good enough.

Link CEO Joe Max Higgins says the city’s proposal is “unacceptable” and they will remain open to negotiations in the future.
