NETTLETON, MISS. (WCBI) — A local furniture company is expanding and adding jobs at its Nettleton plant. There’s a lot of activity on the production lines of HomeStretch Furniture.

The Nettleton based company makes upholstered motion and recliner furniture and while employees are working hard inside the plant, outside, construction crews are busy.

“We’re adding 62,000 square feet to our facility,” said Skipper Holliman, president of HomeStretch.

Holliman and his brother in law, Gentry Long, opened the company in 2010. Holliman says the 220,000 square foot building, which had been home to Lucky Star Industries and Advantage Furniture, was a great fit. The reputation of the workforce also played major role.

“There had been several factories in years past, that had gone away for whatever reason so we knew there were a lot of really good employees in this area,” Holliman said.

HomeStretch began with one production line and 30 employees. Next week, a new production line will be added and the company will have right at 300 employees.

The expansion will add to production and warehouse space, plus, the parking lot will be expanded.

Holliman says HomeStretch has built a diverse customer base with furniture stores nationwide and he credits a solid product line and dedicated workers with steady success.

“When we started in 2009, we had a few people that kind of thought we were nuts, because when we started up things were pretty difficult but we were very small at that point and it gave us a good chance to take our time, kind of get started up slow and as the economy has gotten better each year, we have been able to kind of ride that momentum,” he said.

Holliman and the HomeStretch team also believe in giving back to the community. Since 2011, the company has built three Habitat for Humanity homes and they are working on the fourth one now. Holliman believes hard work, a strong product and concern for the community will help HomeStretch continue to grow and make a positive impact. The expansion should be complete by the end of November.
