MONROE COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – It all began on Tuesday. One burglar hit three homes in the Hamilton area.

“He’s just kicking in the front doors and going in and just picking up things that are hard to trace. Money, jewelry, anything that they can find that would be of quick interest,” said Monroe County Sheriff Cecil Cantrell.

One thing all three cases have in common is they all happened in broad daylight.

Many homeowners leave for the day to go to work or school.

Monroe County Sheriff Cecil Cantrell has some advice for homeowners who have to leave during the day.

“If you are going to be gone any length of time, make sure somebody picks up your newspaper, make sure that somebody gets your mail. If you’re going to be gone at night, leave the lights on in your house. Look like there is going to be some activities,” said Sheriff Cantrell.

Another good way to keep a close eye on your home is to have a good relationship with your neighbors.

Monroe County Coroner Alan Gurley lives in Hamilton and he says he hopes to see more neighborhood watch programs developed.

“I think that’s been done before. I think that has to be revitalized every now and then. I think you do that four years ago, maybe everybody has gotten a little slack with it now. But everybody in this neighborhood, they know each other and everybody will come together here and they’ll start watching a lot closer,” said Gurley.
Thanks to clues left in the houses, Monroe County authorities have a strong suspect and expect to make an arrest soon.
