TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) — Christmas is over. Now what do you do with that unwanted tree?

Columbus and Tupelo city officials don’t want you to throw it out. Give it to them instead to recycle.

Tupelo’s public works department is providing Christmas tree drop-off sites starting Tuesday through January 31.

Drop-off locations include: Tupelo Dog Park, Theron Nichols Park, Ballard Park, Hancock Park, and the Tupelo Compost Site.

They ask you to remove the lights and ornaments from the tree.

In Columbus, officials want you to drop off your live tree at the public works facility on Martin Luther King Drive, or the Farmers Market.

Again, they ask to take off the lights and ornaments.

The city will then host a Christmas tree bonfire on Monday at 6 p.m. at the Riverwalk.
