COLUMBUS, Miss.(WCBI)–This is National Volunteer Week, and the American Red Cross of North Mississippi is honoring its volunteers and the work they do in our communities.

Nearly 19,000 volunteers serve with the Mississippi Red Cross.

Last year they donated over 77,000 hours in support of the Red Cross humanitarian mission.

During the special Friday event appreciating volunteers held at the Columbus Fire And Rescue Training Center, Red Cross Executive Director Patty Tucker says volunteers respond to house fires, teach lifesaving skills, support our military members and their families and so much more.
