TUPELO, Miss. – (WCBI) Tupelo has been overseeing redevelopment of a portion of the West Jackson Street corridor for several years and officials say it is making a positive impact.

The Neighborhood Development Corporation is a group of volunteers that oversees the Jackson Street redevelopment efforts. Through the NDC, the city has purchased blighted properties for future redevelopment.

Shane Hooper is director of developmental services for Tupelo and says redevelopment efforts take a lot of time and proper planning.

“The volunteers that are with our Neighborhood Development Corporation, those volunteers have put in countless hours to make sure this project is successful, the mayor has spent time on it, a tremendous amount of time and the city council has devoted several million dollars to making sure we are successful in that area, that success is going to carry Tupelo’s success,” says Development Services Director Shane Hooper.

Recently, developers announced plans to build about 80 new homes in a west Tupelo subdivision.
