Neshoba County, Miss. (WCBI) — Incumbent Governor and Republican Phil Bryant is running for his second term in office.

His challenger for the primary is Navy veteran and machinist Mitch Young.

Both men discussed the future of the Mississippi’s flag.

“I’d love to keep the flag…”, says Young, “…but I think for unity and I think for a lot of different issues, I think maybe we should consider changing it.”

“I think there will be a robust discussion in January. But I think it would be very premature for me to say what it would look like…”, says incumbent Governor Bryant, “…so we’ll just let the legislature do what they do and begin to discuss that. But the people made that decision. As I told them here today, they are the sovereigns and if there is a change, they need to be the ones to make it.”

This year more than 55 candidates for local and statewide office spoke at Founder’s Square at the Neshoba County Fair.

The Fair ends tomorrow.
