TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) – A public and private partnership is helping clean up a Tupelo neighborhood.

Monday morning, crews from BNSF Railroad, Comcast, Tupelo Water and Light Department and Public Works cleared a part of Mill Village known as Frisco Alley. For years, the overgrown, vacant lots have become a gathering place for transients and illegal activity.

The cleanup initiative is known as  #strongneighborhoods.

“What we’re trying to do out here is take this program throughout the city of Tupelo , different areas of Tupelo will require different things, this is not a one size fits all plan, this is not something where we’re going to come in and do the same thing in every neighborhood, but what we do plan to do is come through our neighborhoods , take a look at what’s needed.”

Organizers say police will have a better view of activity in the area, once the overgrowth is cleared.
