TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) — Saturday marks the two-month anniversary of the April 28th tornado that devastated parts of Tupelo.

Residents are using this anniversary to continue cleaning up one of the buildings destroyed by the storm – the American Legion Post 49 headquarters.

Workers continued to erect a temporary operations center donated by Home Depot.

They say they’re still in the planning stages as far as rebuilding a permanent structure.

“We’re still working through the insurance process and the adjuster,” said Michael Pettigrew, Post 49. “We won’t have any insurance money for probably about 30 to 45 days and so once that comes in, we can actually start the demolition and then the rebuilding of the building. In the interim, you know Eight Days of Hope are coming to Tupelo. They’re coming from 12 to 19 July.”

Pettigrew says their goal is to have their new building completed by Memorial Day of 2015.
