TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) — North Mississippi residents are honoring a local filmmaker who passed away last month.

They gathered at the Link Centre’s reception hall and Black Box Theatre, Sunday, to remember Casey Spradling, and raise money to help future filmmakers.

Spradling collapsed while working on the film “The Hollars” in Jackson, and died July 18.

Sunday’s event included a live auction. There was also a slideshow of Spradling’s films.

Organizers say it was great to get together and share memories.

“We wanted people who knew Casey to celebrate him and people didn’t know him to get to know him and help with his legacy in the future,” said organizer Melanie Addington. “We’ve created an endowment fund to help future filmmakers in his honor.”

Addington says Spradling was also a talented photographer.
